Roxy Jacenko, author of Strictly Confidential: A Jazzy Lou Novel

StyleZilla recently sat down with Roxy Jacenko (the founder and director of Sydney-based agency Sweaty Betty PR, new mum, and author) to chat to her about her debut novel ‘Strictly Confidential’ – a salacious behind-the-scenes look at the world of fashion PR.
The story is about Jasmine Lewis, an aspiring publicist, who faces many trials and tribulations on her way to the top because of her boss from hell, Diane Wildenstein, and a few very interesting clients.
We spoke to Roxy about how writing a book came about, Jasmine Lewis and her experiences in the Australian PR industry.
As a new mum and director of a leading fashion PR agency, how did writing a book come about?
I was working on a Pilot for an Observational Documentary with Channel 7 on Sweaty Betty PR – the publisher at Allen & Unwinhad read about it and touched base thinking it could make for an interesting read as well as TV series!
Do you see yourself in Jasmine Lewis, the main character?
Jasmine and I are two peas in a pod – hard workers and never take ‘too hard or no’ as a reason to give up on whatever we lay our hand to. She has also worked from the bottom up – like me. I started as a receptionist with ZERO experience and worked my way up within the company to learn all I could in order to then go on and create my own success within my own business.
Are some parts of the book based on real-life events that have happened?
The book is fictional; as are the characters however there is no question that there are elements in it that inspiration has been taken from day-to-day in this fast paced world of PR and Events. We see things that are un-imaginable!
How have your experiences in the world of fashion PR helped you throughout the process of writing the book?
The book talks about everything from events, to product placement to celebrities and of course being the goffer for mythen boss in the book – so my experiences from the age of 18 play a part in giving me content but also the ability to time manage and fit in running Sweaty Betty PR, being a mum to Pixie-Rose and also working on Strictly Confidential… Being a PR girl teaches you how to multi-task like a pro!

Fast, Witty & Controversial…..!
We also got a sneak peek at a few chapters and from we’ve read it’s safe to say that ‘Strictly Confidential’ is the ‘Devil Wears Prada’ of the PR industry - Miranda Preistly better watch out there’s a new Queen B in town and her name is Diane Wildenstein!
