MUSE AW13 Launch Party at GPO

Written by Kate Campbell Stone

Over 500 guests were invited to Melbourne’s GPO on Thursday night to celebrate the Muse A/W 13 launch presented by Harper’s Bazaar Australia. Guests were invited to explore the three-storey building and discover the new season Autumn/Winter collections in MGPO stores such as Manning Cartell, Willow, Gorman, Arthur Galan AG, LIFEwithBIRD, Sass & Bide and Alpha 60.

The night was hosted by Australian model and television presenter Rebecca Judd who showcased the hottest looks for the upcoming season, curated by Harper’s Bazaar Australia’s fashion director and stylist Thelma McQuillan.

Alpha 60, Gorman and Sass & Bide were the three Australian designers presenting installations that outlined the inspiration behind their A/W 13 collections.

Alpha 60

The muse for the Alpha 60 autumn winter 2013 collection was American art collector and bohemian socialite, Peggy Guggenheim.  Look for snippets of texture teamed back with plum, blue, grey and cream.

Sass & Bide

The inspiration for Sass & Bide autumn winter 2013 was centered around all things travel and exploration. The muse for the season was a blend of masculine and feminine forces – rather than one person – found within the heart of a trip to Buenos Aires and Peru – a melting pot of deep tradition set within a backdrop of a modern world.

Gorman

Gorman's inspiration for this season draws from its fascination of triangles. Through this structural obsession, they’ve managed to deeply infiltrate the AW13 collection with triangular inspired shape. There is no better proof of this than the collaboration with Melbournian Ellie Malin – a thriving member of the triangle team and block print artist who shared her brilliant use of colour with Gorman this season.

Guests on the night were treated to European hors d'oeuvres style catering including various oyster bars and fromageries accompanied by champagne and San Pellegrino sparkling beverages. Many participated in the fun and festive Muse Must Have photo-booth, competing for the silliest photo to win the season’s hottest pieces.

Designers Lisa Gorman (Gorman), Bridget McCall and Nicholas Van Messner (LIFEwithBIRD), Georgie and Alex Cleary (Alpha 60) and Arthur Galan were in attendance of the night along with an array of Melbourne media, bloggers and fashion personalities.

All in all, the night was a huge success with a great time had by all. If you’re in the Melbourne CBD anytime soon the installation will be on display for almost a month and will officially open to shoppers on Friday 15th March at Melbourne’s GPO.
